Cold case murder victim now has a face
Area News

This image could solve the mystery found at the bottom of a well in Sabine Parish back in 1986. A man's skeletal remains were found there. Retired investigator, Ted De Lacerda has made it his mission to find out the man's identity. De Lacerda has worked on the case since 2006, that's when the man's remains were turned over to him from the Bossier City Coroner's Office. "Most of what I've had to work from are what we call newspaper articles, and that's where I've started from, and it's really all I have," says De Lacerda But now he has a little more, actually, a lot more. He has a face. The man's skull was used by a specialist at LSU in Baton Rouge to reconstruct what his face might look like, and this is it. If the image in this photo looks familiar to you, you could help solve a decades old cold case, and possibly even bring a murderer to justice. Call Ted De Lacerda at 318-256-6246. From KSLA

May 13th Oilfield Job Fair
Events Anonymous writes "PRESS RELEASE

CONTACT: Beasley
(318) 663-3179

APRIL 7, 2008

Another oilfield job fair is being organized by Judge Stephen Beasley of Many in Sabine Parish. The job fair will take place on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Applicants can come any time between those hours, and do not have to be present the whole time.

The job fair will be at Cypress Bend Golf and Spa Resort on Toledo Bend Lake in Sabine Parish, Louisiana, near Toledo Town. For more specific directions, please visit the website: www.cypressbend.com. The resort’s manager, Ron Gwin, has donated the use of the ballroom in the Cypress Bend Conference Center for this event. On May 13th, representatives of the oilfield companies will set up tables and displays all around the perimeter of the large room in order to make it easy for applicants to approach them, ask questions, provide information, and fill out applications.

Judge Beasley is raising awareness about the job fair in Sabine Parish, and also in surrounding parishes in Northwest Louisiana. All applicants are welcome free of charge. To give incentive for companies to attend, they are not charged a fee either. This time, the companies have been asked to make sure to bring enough supplies and forms for the prospective applicants. Last year, there were complaints that companies ran out of applications and had to direct interested applicants to their websites because more people attended the job fair than anticipated.

Approximately the same number of companies are expected to attend this year. The following is a list of companies that have committed or expressed an interest in participating: Atwood Oceanics, B&S Welding, Bean Companies, Brand Scaffolding, C&D Production Specialists, Delmar Systems, Diamond Offshore, Ensco International, Ensco Offshore, Halliburton, Maverick Directional Drilling and related companies, Nabors Drilling USA, Parker Drilling, Pride International, Tidewater, Transocean, Toledo Mudlogging, Noble Drilling, ART Catering (offshore), and Fairfield Industries. For information, questions, or suggestions, please call Steve or Barrett Beasley at 318-256-0966.

Northwestern State University Scholarship Reception
Legal News Anonymous writes "Northwestern State University honored local students at reception

NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University welcomed high school seniors to their reception on March 18th 2008 at the District Attorney’s Office in Many

The Northwestern State University and Louisiana Scholars’ College reception honored the scholarship recipients and priority students of the Many area.

This reception allowed students to meet with several members of the Northwestern recruiting staff, including Ashlee Hewitt Assistant Director of University Recruiting, and their local recruiter Nikki Ceaser. Students were able to ask their questions face to face and receive extra help with the application and housing process.

Door prizes such as NSU t-shirts, mugs, notebooks, and water bottles were also awarded to students and their guests. In addition, NSU Alumni, Ted Jones, awards 2 students with a $100 scholarship. This year’s recipients were Andrew Kelly (Many High School and Kendi Martinez(Zwolle High School),

The Many reception is just one of 14 stops for Northwestern State University this spring. Instead of making the students come to them, Northwestern State University, located in Natchitoches, LA, goes to the students.

Northwestern’s focus is on the student and helping them with their final steps in becoming a Northwestern student in the fall. These receptions continue to show future students and their families that Northwestern State University is large enough to serve you, but small enough to know you.

For more information on Northwestern State University, please visit www.nsula.edu or to schedule a tour of the campus call the Office of University Recruiting at 1-800-327-1903.

Hodges Gardens to open overnight cabins
Area News Effective today, overnight cabins will open to the public at Hodges Gardens State Park, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu said Wednesday in a news release. Almost a year ago, Louisiana assumed ownership of the former privately owned and operated botanical. Since then, access was restricted to the main part of the gardens as state crews continued to upgrade and repair other parts of the 900-acre park. Each cabin received new electrical wiring and was made handicap accessible. ''Today, Louisiana has one of the greatest state park systems in the country, contributing to our quality of life and Louisiana's rural economies,'' Landrieu said. ''Opening these cabins at Hodges Gardens will draw overnight visitors and help increase the economic impact of the park for the region.'' Hodges Gardens is scheduled to open to camping later this summer, and the group lodge will be replaced by a new facility within the next two years. Basic cookware, cooking utensils, dinnerware, silverware, towels and linens are provided in state park cabins. Guests only need to provide food and personal supplies. Reservations for cabin rentals can be made by calling the park toll-free at (800) 354-3523 until April 7. After that date, reservations will go through the Baton Rouge Reservation Center at (877) 226-7652 or www.reserveamerica.com. Rentals for the nine cabins that sleep four each cost $65 a night. The Sweetgum cabin, which sleeps six, and Rosebud Cabin, which sleeps eight, cost $90 nightly.
